Simply downloading a file should not cause any problems since the file was not executed. Malware generally cannot cause any damage unless it is executed. Additionally, on Windows,.bin files are not executable by default so if you use Windows, even if you did click on it, nothing should have happened. Microsoft Defender Antivirus and Windows Firewall are on your device to help protect it from viruses and other malicious software. Before I knew it a bunch of malware/adware. Accidentally opened a trojan. I did something dumb by opening a random exe file from some github repo despite the smartscreen warning. After running, windows security immediately blocked the file and identified it as a trojan. After that, I downloaded malwarebytes and laptop did a screen glitch and froze. For instance, malware can be installed accidentally by clicking on a malicious link and can be hidden or masked by other software. This often happens when you download content from unknown or untrustworthy sources. Seemingly harmless downloads, like screen savers, toolbars, and torrents, may be likely suspects.
